Auto Page Flipping - 990 Mode (Listening, Repetition with Remote Control)

General description of modes

The Flipping pages mode (Flipping pages)  includes several operating modes:

0. Manual page-flipping mode (Manual Flipping) 

Next come the automatic page-flipping modes (Auto Flipping).
The text in fields #3 and #4 is automatically converted to speech (Text-To-Speech) .
These modes imply the use of your device's speakers or headphones.

To control these modes (except for mode 4. Auto Repeat (Auto Repeat) ), you will need a remote control from a selfie stick or a Xiaomi Smart Band that has a smartphone camera control feature (Camera) .

1. Listening to text (Listening to text) 

In this mode, the text in fields #3 and #4 is read aloud and then the page is flipped. Statistics are not recorded.

If you start this mode in the Pending section (Pending) , which includes the subsections: Edit (Edit: 910–929) , Cleared (Cleared: 930–949) , Postpone (Postpone: 950–969)  and New (New) , then the processed (voiced and flipped) page will have its section code changed to 960 and will be moved to the Postpone section (Postpone) .

In any other section of the app, the section code will not change.

In this mode, you can use a remote control to: pause reading, go back to the previous page, resume reading.

2. Listening to #4 (Listening to #4) 

In this mode, the text is read aloud only in field #4, and then the page is flipped. Otherwise, its properties and behavior are the same as in the previous mode.

3. Listening to Words (Listening to Words) 

Here, the text in fields #3 and #4 is read aloud and then the page is flipped.
The difference from the two previous modes is that the curtain-opening timer also takes into account the synonyms in field #7 and the text in the hidden field #4.

4. Auto Repetition (Auto Repeat) 

This is an automatic repetition mode.
The text in fields #3 and #4 is read aloud and then the page is flipped. At the same time, the next repetition interval changes and statistics are updated.

A specific feature of this mode is that, regardless of whether your answer was correct or incorrect, the next repetition interval will increase by the minimum value calculated by a special algorithm for this mode.

In this mode, the remote control does not work. We do not recommend using this mode regularly for repeating material. It can be useful when other methods of repetition are unavailable. More about the use cases of this mode will be explained in our videos on the channel @RepetitoolClub.

5. Repetition with a Remote Control (Repeat w/ Remote Control) 

This is a repetition mode controlled by a remote, which emulates pressing the left button on the Pop-up Button Bar (Pop-up Button Bar) . We do not recommend using this mode without a remote.

In this mode, the text in fields #3 and #4 is read aloud and then the page is flipped. At the same time, the next repetition interval changes and statistics are updated.

The curtain-opening timer also takes into account the synonyms in field #7 and the length of the text in the hidden field #4.

In this mode, use the remote control to perform the following commands: mark "Don't know", pause repetition, resume repetition. If, while listening to the text in fields #3 and #4, you do not press the remote button even once, this means that you knew the correct answer behind the curtain, and the interval of the next repetition will be increased.

Enabling and activating modes

You can enter the Flipping pages section by entering code 990 on the Interval Keyboard (Interval Keyboard)  or by selecting from the drop-down list (click the red arrow on the screen of the Interval Keyboard) the item 990 - ON/OFF Flipping pages.

On the Interval Keyboard (Interval Keyboard)  screen, a message will appear for a few seconds: "Choose Mode" (Choose Mode) . Then a red arrow (pointing down) will appear and blink several times, inviting you to open the list and select one of the modes.

To enable a mode, select one of the items from the drop-down list, then click the green check button "Ok". On the Interval Keyboard (Interval Keyboard)  screen, a message will appear: "Flipping is ON" (Flipping is ON) , i.e. the selected mode is enabled. The left and right buttons on the Pop-up Button Bar (Pop-up Button Bar)  will turn orange.

You can close the Interval Keyboard (Interval Keyboard)  in this case by clicking the green check button "Ok", or clicking the cross button ❌ ("Cancel") twice, or simply clicking outside the Interval Keyboard area on your device's screen.

To disable the selected mode, enter code 990 on the Interval Keyboard (Interval Keyboard)  and click the green check button "Ok". On the Interval Keyboard (Interval Keyboard)  screen, a message will appear for a few seconds: "Flipping is OFF" (Flipping is OFF) .

When you have enabled one of the modes (except 0. Manual Flipping) , you need to activate the mode, i.e. launch it in Auto Flipping mode (Auto Flipping) . This can be done in several ways:

• If you want to leave field #4 open and activate the mode from the next page — click the right button on the Pop-up Button Bar (Pop-up Button Bar) .

• If you want to leave field #4 open and activate the mode from the current page — click the "Speech" icon on the Text-To-Speech panel (Text-To-Speech)  under field #3.

  Note: do not click the "Speech" icon under field #4 to activate the mode. Clicking this icon will stop auto-flipping for the current page. This is done so that you can listen to the text in field #4 several times without worrying that the page will automatically flip. To continue auto-flipping, click the right button on the Pop-up Button Bar (Pop-up Button Bar)  or click the "Hide" icon on the toolbar if you are working with the curtain.

• If you want to close field #4 with the curtain — click the "Hide" icon on the toolbar. The curtain will appear, and the mode will be activated.

Note: To return field #4 to a permanently open state, you must turn off mode 990 and then turn it on again.

Putting the mode on pause manually

• If you are working with the curtain and it is closed — click the curtain, and the mode will pause.

• If you are working without the curtain or it is already open — click the Interval Keyboard button (Interval Keyboard)  on the Pop-up Button Bar (Pop-up Button Bar) .

• You can also click the "Pause" icon, which appears to the right of the "Speech" icon on the Text-To-Speech panel (Text-To-Speech)  during playback of field #3 or #4. But this is not always convenient if the text in the fields is short.

Before moving on to working with the remote control, please note:
when one of the modes is enabled (except 0. Manual Flipping) , while you are on the Page of the Repetition (Repeat Page) , you will not be able to adjust the sound volume using the physical buttons on your device. These buttons emulate pressing the remote control button in this case.

Therefore, to adjust the playback volume, when one of the Auto Flipping modes is enabled, exit the Page of the Repetition (Repeat Page)  by clicking the "Back" button on your device. Adjust the volume and re-enter the Page of the Repetition (Repeat Page) . The mode will activate automatically.

Working with the remote control

Let's clarify once again which modes support the remote control:

• To activate an already enabled mode — press the remote button 2 times. The selected mode will activate from the current page as if you manually clicked the "Speech" icon on the Text-To-Speech panel (Text-To-Speech)  under field #3.

• To pause the mode — press the remote button once.

• To resume the mode — press the remote button once again.

• To go back to the previous page:

  • If the mode is paused — press the remote button 2 times quickly.
  • If the mode is playing — press the remote button 3 times.

Repetition mode

5. Repetition with a Remote Control (Repeat w/ Remote Control) 

• To activate an already enabled mode — press the remote button 3 times.

• If during playback of field #3 you are not sure of the correct answer hidden in field #4, or you gave an answer but during playback of field #4 it turned out to be incorrect — press the remote button once.
  When the current page is flipped, the next daily interval and statistics will be calculated as if you pressed the left "Don't know" button on the Pop-up Button Bar (Pop-up Button Bar) . Accordingly, this page will go into the minute repeat plan.

• If your answer was correct — do not press the remote button.

Putting playback on pause (nuances)

Follow the instructions carefully:

• If during playback of the page (field #3 or #4)  you pressed the remote button once (set the "Don't know" mark) and then want to pause the mode — press the remote button one more time.
  Note: the "Don't know" mark will reset.

• If during playback you want to pause the mode and have not pressed the remote button before (i.e. no "Don't know" mark), then to pause press the remote button 2 times quickly.

• If the curtain was closed when the mode is set to pause, it opens.

• To resume playback — press the remote button once. Playback will start from field #3, so you will have additional time to set the "Don't know" mark if necessary, because with an open curtain there will be no extra pause before playback of field #4.

After a little practice, you will handle this easily.
Remember the main rule: if you pause the mode, the "Don't know" mark is reset.

Additional useful information

When you work with one of the Auto Flipping modes (Auto Flipping) , your device's screen will not turn off until the list of the selected pages runs out. If you're using the app with a remote control and headphones and aren't looking at the device's screen, reduce the screen brightness using any available method. This will significantly reduce your device's battery drain.

If you need to interrupt your work and exit the app, press the "Home" button or press the "Back" button once and then "Home". Your mode settings will be saved.

If you press the "Back" button once, you will exit the Repeat Page (Repeat Page)  and you will get to the page with the list of the selected pages. In this case, the settings for the current mode are saved. However, if you press the "Back" button again and exit this list, the mode settings will be reset.
